Ingredients

For the Pizza:

  • 16 ounces pizza dough, store-bought or homemade (enough for one large pizza)

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce (see below)

  • 18 to 20 slices Plantropy’s Jackfruit Pepperoni (thaw for 5 minutes at room temperature before using)

  • 12 ounces mozzarella cheese, grated (or plant-based alternative)

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon fresh oregano, optional

  • Flour for rolling and shaping dough

For the Quick Pizza Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (no salt)

  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic

  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated onion

  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Method

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 500°F.

For a crispy crust, choose your method:

  • Using a pizza stone? Preheat it in the oven for at least 20 minutes.

  • Using a cast-iron skillet? Preheat it on a burner over high heat for 2 minutes before transferring to the oven.

Step 2: Make the Sauce

If using homemade sauce, stir together all sauce ingredients. This recipe makes just enough for one pizza, but you can double it if needed.

Step 3: Roll Out the Dough

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about a 14-inch diameter circle. If the dough is tough to roll, let it rest for 5 minutes to come to room temperature.

Step 4: Add the Toppings

  • Transfer the dough to a lightly dusted pizza peel (if using a pizza stone) or press it into a cast-iron skillet.

  • Spread a light layer of sauce over the dough, leaving a 1/4-inch crust around the edges.

  • Chop half of the jackfruit pepperoni and sprinkle it over the sauce.

  • Top with grated cheese and the remaining slices of jackfruit pepperoni.

  • Season with black pepper.

Step 5: Cook the Pizza

  • Using a pizza stone? Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated stone. Cook for 6 minutes, then rotate the pizza for even cooking. Bake for another 6 to 8 minutes until the crust is golden brown and slightly charred.

  • Using a cast-iron skillet? Press the dough into the skillet and add toppings. Heat the skillet on a burner for 2 minutes, then transfer to the oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the crust is golden brown.

Step 6: Slice and Serve

Use a pizza peel to transfer the pizza to a cutting board. Let it rest for a minute before slicing. Sprinkle with fresh oregano if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
